Section 1 Rankings - Week 2

BOYS OPEN RANKINGS

Section 1 Boys Rankings - Open
1 Arlington (AA) 17:10 average at Sunken Meadow, if there is a vulnerability to this team it is the 1:37 gap.  They will need to put 5 closer together to battle with the AA schools.  172.8 Tully speed rating avg. top 5.
2 North Rockland (AA) Based on times from their invite and putting up against Suffern in dual meet format, they win by just 1 point.  Coach Baloga had them on track to battle all comers. Tully ranks them 166.2 vs. 165.6 for Suffern. Could go either way.
3 Suffern (AA) Want to catch a great meet, stop by the Rockland County Championships this season, should be a great match up between North Rockland and Suffern this year.  These boys can put 4 guys within 12 seconds of each other right now and don't doubt #5 isn't working hard to get closer.  If he can, Suffern can think about winning many titles at the end of this season.
4 Mahopac (AA) 16:48 average at Suffern and 156 Tully avg. keeps these guys at #4 for this week, nice showing.
5 Fox Lane (A) Ran very well @ Bowdoin despite all the doubters saying 800 meter guys can't run 5k. 17:55 average, AND only a 42 second spread should have these guys thinking about a sectional title.  155.8 Tully avg.
6 Dobbs Ferry (C) 18:13 average at Bowdoin shows nice improvements over their sectional meet last year on the same course.  90 second spread will do fine in class C meet.  Top 5 under 18:50 is a good start to this season.
7 Horace Greeley (A) 18:11 avg. at Bowdoin, but with #5 at 19:03 I'll give Dobbs Ferry the nod this week to stay at #6 on this list.  149 speed rating avg. Tully vs. 149.6 for Dobbs.
8 Pearl River (B) 17:06 average at Suffern earns a 150 speed rating. Led by Hickey, they will score some very low points up front.
9 Somers (A) 16:51 avg. at JFK, but a 1:48 spread can be dangerous in a large scoring meet.  Look for coach Fulton to push this pack tighter together to try to take on other A schools.
10 Brewster (A) 18:23 average at Bowdoin-less than a 1 min. spread is very good team running.
HM Carmel (A) 18:30 average at Bowdoin with a 2 min. spread.
HM Irvington (C) 17:26 at Suffern with a 2:28 spread and a 143.4 speed rating average.

We know there are other teams out there that will be on this list soon. IF we could not find results for your team, we were unable to do any rankings. If you split your squad and only Varsity divisions were listed, but you had JV guys run faster,  we apologize for not being able to give due credit. Please email us any results that might help us make informed
decisions: runnered@verizon.net.

Thanks and see you next week.

BOYS CLASS RANKINGS

  Class AA
1 Arlington (AA) Leader of Section 1 Top 10 open teams.
2 North Rockland (AA) This is going to be a great race at Bowdoin this year.
3 Suffern McKenna had an off day but team running well.
4 Mahopac (AA) Under 17:00 avg. at Suffern
5 Carmel Good run at Bowdoin, need to get everybody under 19:00.

  Class A
1 Fox Lane Got a great showing for opening week for them.  Team running together very well.
2 Horace Greeley 18:11 avg. at Bowdoin very nice start. If the coaches can do their magic and get everybody under 18:00 they will again be tough in A.
3 Somers 16:51 at JFK and running together pretty well.
4 Brewster 18:23 avg. at Bowdoin.
5 Yorktown 17:04 average at JFK, Kumar is fast!!

  Class B
1 Pearl River Hickey led team ran nice 17:06 avg at Suffern.
2 Byram Hills 16:56 avg. at JFK, only 1:34 spread is good at this time of year.
3 JFK Catholic 18:01 avg. on home course.
4 Putnam Valley 18:18 avg. at JFK
5 Rye 18:39 avg. at JFK, Max runs 16:14 to lead.

  Class C
1 Dobbs Ferry 18:13 average on Bowdoin course that they plan to win on at the end of October shows great ability.
2 Irvington 17:26 average at Suffern with 2 of top runners in C they will be tough.
3 Pawling 18:59 average at Bowdoin. When they move the JV guy up he can be their new #3 to help out.  This team will improve.
4 Bronxville Still struggling at the 5 spot. This weekend they ran without their #4 and the top 3 ran well, still led by Freshman Flannery in 18:06 at Sunken Meadow with Snake and Cemetary Hills.
5 Dover 18:20 avg. at JFK

  Class D
Keio Matsuoko ran 17:57 to lead at Suffern, followed by a full team they should be able to stay healthy and improve as season progresses.

GIRLS OPEN RANKINGS

  Section 1 Rankings - Open
T1 Arlington (AA) Ran a 70 second spread @ Sunken Meadow (State Meet sight) on Saturday to win their race.  Sorna ran 19:49.  Pack will look to tighten up if they are going to be able to hold off improving Suffern.  (Tully speed rating of top 5 averaged 109)
T1 Suffern (AA) This group is running well, chasing their leader Shelby around the course and earning a Tully Speed Rating of 109.6, tightening up the rankings and we can't wait to see both teams on the same course soon.
3 Bronxville (C) Head to head with Arlington in the race on Saturday saw the Broncos finish with a team avg. of 21:24.  They will have to tighten up between 4-5 to keep other teams out, 8th grader Phillips running well with front 3. Tully 91.8
4 Pearl River (B) Winners of their race at the Briarwood Inv. In Philadelphia over the weekend with the Guerin sisters continuing to lead them (19:32 and 19:38).  Hard to compare them to other teams at this point, once they hit home turf we will know better, but well coached and always improving.
5 Ursuline (A) A tough call with Mahopac on their heels in the #6 spot.  With Katie Sullivan continuing to run well and the rest of the Koalas getting more organized behind her look for them to make a move. Tully sp. Rating of 91.2 for top 5.
6 Mahopac (AA) Overlooked (Sorry) completely last week, this team averaged 20:21 @Suffern.  The best part of the team is their 43 sec. spread from 1-5.  Keep an eye on the noise they can make as the season moves forward.
7 Brewster (A) 5th in the merge at Bowdoin with a good starting 21:41 average and less then 2 min. spread right now.  They will need to bring the gap down and look for a star to emerge.  83 Tully speed rating top 5.
8 Carmel (AA) 22:17 average @ Bowdoin, these ladies need to tighten up the 3+ min. gap from 1-5.  6th  merge at Bowdoin.
9 North Rockland(AA) Unable to find results on them, however their spot will hold based on last weeks performance.
10 Irvington (C)  21:12 average at Suffern's 3 mile race, their 3+ min. gap allows too much room for others to squeak in.  Annie Field running really well and looking for her team to follow suit.
HM John Jay (A) 2nd. In merge at JFK with a 21:39 average
HM New Rochelle (AA) 23:10 average at Sunken Meadow on Sat. Once the ladies get into the groove of the distances they will improve.

Teams that did not compete were not ranked, unless there were results from previous weeks..  IF you have results that would help us make informed decisions about rankings, please email them to runnered@verizon.net.

GIRLS CLASS RANKINGS

  Class AA
T1 Arlington Still running real well.
T1 Suffern Showing the ability to take over #1.
3 Mahopac Nice tight bunch of 5.
4 Carmel Ran pretty well with one girl having a bit of an off day.
5 North Rockland A solid group.
HM New Rochelle These girls impressed me at Pratt.
  Class A
1 Ursuline Sullivan leads what will be a good group of girls by season's end.
2 Brewster 21:41 average at Bowdoin to start season is pretty good, need to squeeze the spread under that 2min.
3 John Jay 2nd in merge at JFK 21:39 average, could stir things up by season's end in A.
4 Mamaroneck 21:43 avg. at JFK for 4th beating Yorktown in Girls I race.
5 Yorktown 22:00  avg. at JFK for 3rd in merge but beaten in Girls I race by Mamaroneck.
HM Somers 22:15 avg at JFK for 6th in merge
  Class B
1 Pearl River Winners of another invite, this time in Philadelphia.  Will be good to see them soon on home turf.
2 JFK Catholic 22:16 avg. at their own meet to finish 7th in merge. Their weakness is their almost 6:00 spread from 1-5.
3 Nanuet 20:20 -25:34 at Suffern.  Looking to bring the 5 closer together.
4 Ardsley Can they continue to remain in the top 4?  Keep an eye to see what they show this weekend.
5 Briarcliff 23:44 average at JFK for a top 10 finish in merge.

  Class C
1 Bronxville Group ran well at Sunken Meadow, despite losing to Arlington.  With 4 middle schoolers and a 9th grader they pulled off the win in the frosh race as well.  Keep an eye on the youth putting pressure to make top 7.
2 Irvington 21:12 avg. at Suffern with Field running really well, quite a leader for the team.  3:24 gap needs to be worked on to  keep Pawling at bay.
3 Pawling 22:29 average at Bowdoin with a 3:17 gap.  Another team working to bring the top 5 closer together to be more competative.
4 Hastings 23:18 avg. at Sunken Meadow.  22:11-24:49 for top 5.
5 Dobbs Ferry 22:41 avg. at Bowdoin with a 1:52 gap.  The younger girls are working hard to put pressure on other teams.
6 Dover Can't ignore a team that wins their division of an invitational, taking 1st in Girls II race at JFK ahead of JFK.  Solid 3 between 21:35 and 22:43 but lacking solid #4-5.

Good thoughtful rankings and comments. Look to be as close as you'll get for the Sect. 1 teams at this point with a number working on the 4-5 spots.

looks good except where's byram in the boys open rankings, they beat irvington by a considerable amount at regis and only lost to somers by 5 points at JFK.
adamonation / 1 Years Ago
Scarsdale boys?
toetheline / 1 Years Ago
Byram Hills boys are very good and all are juniors. Did Scarsdale race last weekend? If so they should be in there.
Voltaire / 1 Years Ago
Scarsdale doesn't race invtationals early - they open up this weekend at the Warwick XC Mania meet.
DobbsRover2 / 1 Years Ago
Scarsdale has a great top 3 and should finish 2nd or 3rd at Warwick on Saturday behind NJ's top team Don Bosco and possibly Warwick. With three runners with Speed Ratings over 170 (based on dual meet times and comparative estimates). they look tough. May well enter in the #3 AA spot next week. And yeah, Bobcats do look like #2 in Class B, and if they can pull up a stronger 4-5 duo, they could make a good run at the Pirates.
bxvtrack / 1 Years Ago
Scarsdale looks good in duals, will def. be ranked after this weekend. Irvington at Regis was NOT a complete team so we can't really say Byram's TEAM beat them. This weekend will show more of what everybody has.

Overall, good thorough assessment except in regards to Class A boys. As in Lohud's poll, Fox Lane gets dumped from their high position because they were without their #2 runner, for whatever reason. Okay, though unless Mitchell is injured and out I can't agree with the logic. But who gets put at the top of A, a Horace Greeley team that I guess must have done great at Warwick? They were also without their #2 runner and fell way back to an average 21 seconds behind Dobbs Ferry, against whom they supposedly came in ahead of in the Big Red merged results two weeks before. Moving teams around for a reason is fine, but shouldn't the criteria be consistent?
bxvtrack / 1 Years Ago
The criteria has been consistent, ranking based on what was run that day, not what could have been run, for that reason Pawling has not been put ahead of Dobbs Ferry, although they could have the #1 runner in Class C but that has only been speculation all season and hasn't happened. As for being without anybody, it's going to happen with college visits, etc. but I rank based on the weeks performance by the runners run, as in other sports rankings are not done by guesstimates, as there are injuries, ineligibility rules for academics, ets. that may cause a team to lose a player and who knows if they will return. "Rumor" has it that 2 may be hurt on Fox Lane, but until they tell me themselves I am not going to keep them ranked at the top, because if it is true, they are a totally different team. IF Dobbs were to lose one Wortner for injury you would be a different team as well, and I'll bet you wouldn't say that I should keep you in the top 10 of county or in #1 spot of Class C, correct??? Nothing exact about doing the rankings, just one person's opinions once again but I'd say they are pretty close. The kids will all prove their spots as the weeks progress, won't need us to tell them where they are.
DobbsRover2 / 1 Years Ago
Okay, everyone knows that injuries will cause a team to dip in the rankings, although, come to think of it, I saw a lot of leeway with that rule last year. Maybe this year is different. I won't bother commenting on the Freyer stuff since I don't know of any pollster who would rank a team based on a rumor that somebody might someday run for a team. If you want to put Pawling at the top based on a maybe, go for it as soon as your rumor is confirmed.

But back to the case I mentioned, HG apparently loses its #2 (for a race), therefore runs with so-so results, and not only are they not dumped behind, say, Somers, but they are placed #9 in Sect 1. Again, I don't grok the logic behind that, but I guess there must be a reason for what looks to me a big inconsistency in the usage of the ranking guidelines.

i am inellgiable this season but will be competing in NXN & indoor.... so dont make comments unless you know your fact
