SAT Classes Begin at The Armory

Each winter The Armory College Preparation Program provides SAT instruction for New York City high school students who practice at The Armory. This year, the classes got off to an early start. Last Tuesday evening, fourteen students showed up at The Armory to attend their first session. The students traveled from Campus Magnet High School in Queens, Springfield Gardens Campus, Clara Barton High School, Grady High School, Columbus High School in the Bronx, and Transit Tech. Mostly seniors, many of the students are preparing for their second taking of the SAT in December.
The classes are taught by trained instructors provided by a professional test preparation agency known as The Protesters (www.theprotesters.com). The classes take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm.
This year, The Protesters have provided a teacher who will be able to connect with students in various, significant ways. This particular teacher, Antonio Moretti (pictured above, left) is a former Dalton High School track and field athlete who recently graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University. In addition to his high academic accomplishments, Moretti is very familiar with The Armory and the sport of track and field. He has competed in the center many times. After returning to New York from college, the twenty-four year old Harlem native has landed employment with The New York Road Runners Foundation where he directs youth programs. Moretti comes as a welcome addition to a growing staff of tutors, instructors and counselors who will be serving the Armory Prep program.
Coaches who would like to enroll their student-athletes in The Armory College Prep Program should contact Derrick Adkins at (212) 923-1803 extension 11 or derrick@armorytrack.com. As class sizes grow, more instructors will be employed and the classes will be split to keep the groups small. Priority will be given to first-generation college student prospects in the New York City area however all interested students will be considered for admission to the program as funding allows.
