The Armory is a busy place all year long, from track meets all winter to movie and TV shoots in the summer, to celebrity visits with no notice. Here is a look at some of the things that go on here throughout the year.

Harlem Children's Zone returns to The Armory

Every summer here at The Armory one of the most exciting events to take place is The Harlem Children's Zone track meet. With thousands of kids and hundreds of volunteers, each HCZ center races in different color t-shirts, and the place goes crazy.

Mayor Bloomberg Urges New Yorkers to Volunteer

Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited The Armory on Monday to help spread the message of volunteerism for NYC residents.

 

Armory engagement - Washington & Lee seniors engaged at The Armory

 

The charming couple are Vance Berry III and Elizabeth Webb.

They are both seniors at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA.

Mr. Barry proposed during the Lafayette-Rider Games here at The Armory.

Scenes from The Armory: meet day scholars

Here is a scene from a Saturday afternoon meet at The Armory. As anyone who has ever been to a track meet knows, they can be very long. Track and field athletes are known for their dedication to the classroom. Above girls take a break from competing and cheering for their teammates to ctach up on som home work.

MTV Networks "RAH!" to be filmed at The Armory

Paula Abdul heads up this inside look at the intense world of competitive cheerleading. RAH! is an elite invitational cheerleading event in which five of the top collegiate cheerleading squads in the nation will be put through a series of challenges in order to be crowned the RAH! Champ by Paula

Brian Clay visits The Armory

Brian Clay, Olympic Gold Medalist in the decathon, visted The Armory on his way back from Bejiing. He is pictured here at The Armory with 1996 400m Hurdle Gold Medalist and The Director of Track and Field Derrick Adkins.
Dave Wottle visits The Armory

Dave Wottle is known for one of the greatest 800-meter finishes in Olympic history. Wottle won the 800 meters at the 1972 Munich Olympics in 1:45.86, erasing what looked like an insurmountable lead in the final 200 meters. He won by .03 seconds. Even more than his incredible finish, Wottle was known for the white golf cap that he wore during the race and for his entire career. His cap is displayed in the National Track and Field Hall of Fame at the Armory.

On the Fast Track: The Armory gets a new surface

ArmoryTrack.com wants to give you an inside look at the renovation of the track for the 2008-2009 season. Inside, we provide some pictures of the $850,000 project during Week 1 of construction.

Project Runway

The Armory was featured on the TV show Project Runway, which aired on August 6th, 2008 on the cable station Bravo. Click here to see a video recap of the show.

China Central Television

The Armory's Director of Track and Field Derrick Adkins answered questions about the success of American track and field during an interview with China Central Television (CCT). It was just one of the ways The Armory has been included in the coverage of track and field for the Beijing Olympics. MSNBC's Willie Geist tried his hand at the pole vault, weight throw, shot put and hurdles yesterday as some of the station's reporters attempted Olympic events.

Bank of America provides bikes for kids at The Armory

The kids hid on the first floor and were fitted for bike helmets and given locks for bikes they haven’t even seen yet. All this while 300 Bank of America trainees assembled brand new Huffy bicycles for kids they never met.

 

Stan Saplin Media Center Dedication

Some of the biggest meet/race directors in the sport were on hand for the opening of the Stan Saplin Media Center, a working press room located track level at the finsh line. DeWitt Clinton Graduation

DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx has held their graduation here the last few years. Seeing the red and black gowns enter into the arena is always a sight to behold.

Armory Legends Day

Michael Johnson, Carl Lewis, Bruce Jenner and Rafer Johnson visited The Armory and the US Track and Field Hall of Fame on Friday, April 27 as part of the 30th year celebration of The Hershey's Track and Field Games.

These four gracious, dedicated and inspiring giants of our sport filmed training videos, mentored young athletes, talked track with Derrick Adkins (The Armory's resident Olympic gold medallist) and toured the Hall of Fame with Armory president, Dr. Norb Sander. It was a wonderful day and and uplifting day. We thank The Hershey Company and Hershey Vice President, Bob Goodpaster for making it all happen. MORE PICTURES HERE

 Oscar Pistorius Visits The Armory

Oscar Pistorius' reputation as the "fastest thing on no legs" is gaining momentum with every race. A double amputee, the 20-year-old South African phenomenon is the world record holder in his category for the 100, 200 and 400 meters sprints. STORY HERE
